Friesland - sounds like the ocean:
A county by the sea with very attractive travel sites on a total of 608 square kilometres, hosting more than half a million tourists per annum. 3.6 millions of overnight lodgings show that these tourists appreciate Friesland. About 100.000 inhabitants welcome these tourists - they live and work in an area where others enjoy their holiday: in eight towns and communities including the county centre of Jever and the island of Wangerooge in the North Sea.
Friesland - quite natural:
Here in the north the constant struggle between man and nature has formed a landscape: where there was sea at one time you now find cattle on green pastures. Woods, marshland, sandy uplands, moorland regions and sand beaches have all become parts of the same county!
Friesland - well connected:
The county is closely situated to the biggest port construction in Germany, the deep sea port Jade Weser Port in Wilhelmshaven. There are the motorway A 29, several local airports, two railway lines and a large amount of Federal and regional roads to meet all logistic requirements.
Friesland - an area of economic growth:
Several international enterprises as well as smaller companies have created a big amount of attractive jobs in the manufacturing business, e.g. the construction of aeroplanes. Well known service agencies in the communication field are among the most important employers in our county. Tourism ensures thousands of jobs in the area, just as modern farming continues to shape the county's image. Due to many investments and very active, combined economic efforts of the county of Friesland, the towns and the communities, we managed to transform this area from a region with a high unemployment rate into a prosperous place for working. This remains a constant goal for enterprises, politicians and the administration.
Friesland - good for families:
Friesland has more to offer to families than just spending a holiday here. That can be said for families in the region, but also for those who plan to move here for good. Friesland is a county where the administration, the industry, the chambers of commerce and the unions have recognised the importance of a good environment for families. One example: the county has established family service offices for all matters concerning child care. There parents can find help and support from one office, may it be the right kindergarten or day care for a relative at home. In these offices the families find competent partners who help them to find the appropriate offer in this vast network for families.
Friesland - worth while to live in:
Behind the 52 kilometres of embankment there is a wide range of schools that you can choose from. More and more you can find day schools as well as all types of secondary schools and further education. Every year the county spends millions of Euros for education - an investment in the future for the children in Friesland. For your leisure time the county offers a variety of colourful events and cultural activities such as local fairs for ten thousands of people or art workshops near the Wadden Sea. From there it is only a little step to the culinary highlights in the local gastronomy. It need not always be fish - but once you have tried small shrimps from the North Sea, fresh from a fish trawler in one of the Friesian harbours, you will taste the spirit of the region!
